Grandma Roth’s Butter Cookies
This was a recipe that I grew up with. It came over from Germany with the family. It's best to let them sit for about a week to let the nuts add flavor to the cookies.
Grandma Roth’s Butter Cookies
4 ¾ cups Flour
7oz butter (2Tbs less than 1 cup) softened
⅓ c nuts (black walnuts work the best)
½ c sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
Mix dry then wet ingredients and work into a dough. Roll out on floured wax paper and cut out (mom always used a cup and they were various shapes) paint tops of cookies with beaten egg yolk.
Bake at 350 till firm. they will only brown a little so watch closely
